Traffic Curbs Imposed in Gangtok as PM Narendra Modi Begins Sikkim Visit

Gangtok, April 27: Vehicular movement in parts of Gangtok has been restricted as Narendra Modi commenced a two-day visit to Sikkim on April 27, with heightened security measures in place across the capital.

According to Sikkim Police, a key stretch of National Highway between Ganju Lama Dwar and Zero Point has been temporarily closed due to security requirements. Officials said the approximately 3-kilometre stretch would remain shut from 2:30 pm onwards to ensure the safe movement of the Prime Minister’s convoy.

Commuters have been advised to plan their travel in advance and use alternative routes to avoid inconvenience. Authorities added that normal traffic flow would be restored once security clearance is granted.

Security arrangements have been intensified across the city, with multiple agencies coordinating to regulate movement and maintain strict adherence to protocols during the visit.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to arrive in Gangtok at around 3 pm. His official engagements will begin on April 28 with a visit to the Orchidarium, followed by participation in the closing ceremony marking the 50th year of statehood of Sikkim at Paljor Stadium.

During the event, he is expected to address the gathering and inaugurate, dedicate and lay foundation stones for several development projects across sectors including infrastructure, healthcare, education, connectivity, tourism and agriculture.

Officials said comprehensive security and traffic management plans have been implemented to ensure the smooth conduct of the high-level visit.
