Udalguri–Sonitpur, April 27: Members of Seuj Society have expressed deep grief over the passing of former journalist and ex-General Secretary of the Dhekiajuli Press Club, Rupendrajit Sharma, whose death has left a profound impact on the region’s media and cultural circles.
Sharma, who had been battling a prolonged illness, passed away on April 15 at around 10:30 AM at Apollo Hospital Hyderabad. He was 47. Widely regarded as a prominent figure during his tenure in television journalism, his demise has been described as a significant loss by colleagues, organisations and well-wishers.
Ten days after his passing, members of the Dhekiajuli regional branch of Seuj Society visited his residence to offer condolences to the bereaved family. The delegation included Captain Dolly Das, Nazmul Hussain Bhuyan, Monmayuri Das and Bablu Ansari, who conveyed their sympathies.
Several organisations have also mourned his death, including Seuj Society under its president Sanjoy Baruah, the Dhekiajuli Central Rongali Bihu Committee, Kristi Sarathi Sanskritic Group and Bonyam Sanskritic Khyetra.
Family sources stated that Sharma, also known as Bablu, was not only associated with journalism but was also active as an actor and entrepreneur. He is survived by his mother, wife, children and extended family members, along with a wide circle of admirers.
