Over 330 Students in Arunachal’s Boleng Engage in River Conservation Exhibition Focused on Siang Project

Itanagar, April 28: More than 330 students in Boleng participated in a three-day school exhibition centred on river conservation and sustainable infrastructure, with particular emphasis on the proposed Siang Upper Multipurpose Project (SUMP).

The initiative began at the Government Upper Primary School in Rengo and expanded across the town in subsequent days. Around 50 students attended sessions at PM SHRI Secondary School, followed by nearly 130 participants at the Government Higher Secondary School. The outreach programme aimed to simplify complex development issues while addressing growing curiosity among students about the region’s future.

Organisers adopted an interactive approach, moving away from conventional lectures to a structured visual exhibition divided into 12 sections. Participants were guided through the course of the Siang River and introduced to key themes such as flood control, electricity generation and regional development. The sessions relied on simple, fact-based explanations to make technical subjects more accessible.

An illustrated FAQ booklet in an anime-style format was also distributed, addressing common questions and misconceptions related to infrastructure projects in the region. The material was designed to present verified information in an engaging and easy-to-understand manner.

School authorities said the format encouraged active participation, with teachers and administrators across the institutions coordinating efforts to ensure student engagement at each venue.

The programme reflects a broader push to involve young people in discussions around environmental management and large-scale infrastructure, particularly in regions where such projects are expected to have long-term local implications.
