Missing Guwahati Woman Returns Safely, Says She Travelled to Shillong Amid Emotional Distress

Guwahati, April 29: A woman from Guwahati who had been missing for nearly two days has returned home safely, stating in a public message that she had travelled to Shillong while struggling with severe emotional distress and thoughts of self-harm.

In a video shared on social media, Bhabana Sarma clarified that no third party was involved in her disappearance, rejecting speculation that a cab driver or any outsider had played a role. She said she left her residence on April 24 of her own accord, travelling from Jalukbari to Paltan Bazar before heading to Shillong, where she checked into a hotel alone. She added that CCTV footage would corroborate that she was unaccompanied throughout.

Sarma also addressed a message she had sent to her mother during the period, in which she claimed to be in danger. She described the message as untrue, stating it was sent while she was not in a stable state of mind. In her account, she said she had been anxious and confused, and at one stage contemplated ending her life before deciding against it and returning home.

She recounted that the following morning she sought help from a woman she encountered outside and contacted her family. With assistance from Assam Police, she was able to return safely.

In her statement, Sarma alleged that she had been under emotional pressure during a two-year relationship with Nihar Jyoti Sarma. She claimed that she was threatened with the release of private photographs and videos if she attempted to end the relationship, and further alleged that threats were made against her and her family members, leading to prolonged fear and distress.

She confirmed that an FIR has been lodged and said she is cooperating with the ongoing investigation. In her message, she also urged others facing similar emotional strain or intimidation to seek help and speak out rather than remain silent.
