Shillong, April 29: Competition intensified at Mawlai Mawroh in Shillong as the State Boxing Championship 2025–26 moved into its phase, with semifinal berths confirmed across multiple categories.
Organised by the Meghalaya Boxing Association with support from the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, the four-day tournament features junior and youth divisions for both boys and girls across a range of weight classes.
In the girls’ youth segment, semifinal contests narrowed the field of title contenders. Jiasa B Marak secured victory over Risalang Lawriniang in the 44–46kg category. In the 48–51kg division, Ekyrpangmeki Sohiong overcame Nishamery Kurbah, while Laweibaphyrnai Marwein defeated Khamkornaki Iawphniaw. Sanphika Mynsong advanced in the 54–57kg category after beating Ibapynsuk Thabah.
The boys’ youth division also saw decisive outcomes, with Russell Fabian Nongkhlaw and Banchanmiki Pyrtuh progressing in the 45–48kg class. In the 48–50kg category, Amethyst Synnah and Samuel Sohphoh secured their places in the next round. Advancing from the 50–55kg division were Nineseviersius Suchiang and Kibanroi Syngkli, while Marleki Suchiang and Erickson Kahit moved ahead in the 55–60kg category.
Meanwhile, the junior boys’ competition concluded its quarterfinal stage, setting up the next round of bouts. Boxers advancing included Arush Biswa, Eddieferson Wahlang, Pyndapkupar Marwein, Nambearo Sangma, Freedy Marngar, Ryan Lyngdoh, Aaron T Sangma and Arkimanbha Rimen across various weight categories.
With semifinal line-ups finalised and junior rounds progressing, the championship is set to culminate with final bouts that will determine the winners across divisions.
