Shillong, April 29: Defending champions Mawlai SC were held to a 2-2 draw by Laskein SCSC in Group E of the 5th Meghalaya State League, as a depleted line-up struggled to secure victory in Amlarem.
With several senior players away in Manipur for the I-League 3, Mawlai fielded a youthful side and conceded early when Bundaki Lamare found the net in the ninth minute. The champions responded through Jestibor Mawlong before half-time, and Syndongmiki Lyngdoh gave them the lead in the second half. However, Laskein levelled soon after, with Rithrangmiki Biam scoring to ensure both sides shared the points.
Elsewhere, dominant performances marked the day’s action. Langsning FC and Nongkseh SSCC recorded emphatic 8-0 victories over Umlakro SC and Mawshun SC respectively.
Langsning’s Nelson Rymbai produced a standout performance with four goals, taking his tally to 11 and strengthening his lead in the race for top scorer. Additional goals from Mebanlamlynti Masharing, Samuel Phawa and Morningstar Khongkiang, along with an own goal, completed a comprehensive win.
At the SSA Stadium in Shillong, Nongkseh’s Chesterpaul Lyngdoh struck a hat-trick—his second of the season—while Hardy Cliff Nongbri, Shano Tariang and Fullmoon Mukhim also found the net in another one-sided contest.
Lumphyrnai Sohphoh FC also impressed with a 6-1 win over Lamyrsiang SCC. Rio Marboh scored four goals, adding to his earlier hat-trick this season, while Phrangsngi Law and Chandame Suna contributed late strikes. Lamyrsiang’s lone goal came through Seiborki Kharlukhi.
Other fixtures were more closely fought. Mawphu SC came from behind to defeat Mulang SC Nongbah 3-2 in Shillong, while Rymbai Shkenshynriah SC overturned an early deficit to edge Ladthadlaboh SC 2-1 in Khliehriat, with Hesmiki Rymbai scoring twice after the break.
In Williamnagar, Maram FC ended a two-match losing run with a 3-2 win over A’chik SCO Rongjeng. Meanwhile, Seng Samla Umdang Pyllun and Mawten SC played out a 1-1 draw in Mawkyrwat.
The league calendar briefly eases, with only one upcoming fixture scheduled, as Attong Matgrik FC prepare to face Janepih YSCA in Group G at Williamnagar.
