Imphal, May 1: A crucial Bailey bridge over the Tuivai river in Manipur collapsed in Churachandpur district on the evening of April 30, severely disrupting a vital supply route used for transporting essential goods into the region, officials said.
The bridge, situated between Sinzawl and Khuanggin villages along National Highway-102B, gave way while two trucks loaded with cement were crossing it. Authorities confirmed that no casualties were reported in the incident.
The affected route is considered a critical lifeline for Churachandpur, linking the district with Silchar and facilitating connectivity through Mizoram. It plays a significant role in ensuring the steady movement of essential commodities into the area.
Officials stated that restoration efforts have been initiated on a war footing, with priority being given to restoring connectivity and resuming traffic movement along the route at the earliest.
