Guwahati, May 4: BJP candidate from Jagiroad and Assam Minister Pijush Hazarika on May 4 expressed confidence in the performance of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance as counting for the Assembly elections progressed across Assam.
Speaking to reporters after the initial rounds of counting, Hazarika said early trends were encouraging for the alliance and pointed towards a strong mandate in favour of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He noted that three to four rounds had been completed and described the trends as preliminary, adding that a clearer picture would emerge with further counting.
He expressed optimism about the outcome, stating that the alliance was expecting a favourable result and that more definitive trends could be visible by around midday.
Hazarika also asserted that the BJP-led alliance was on track to retain power in the state, indicating that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was likely to return for another term.
According to early figures from the Election Commission of India, the NDA continued to hold a comfortable lead in several constituencies as counting proceeded under strict security arrangements statewide.
