Hitendra Nath Goswami Reaffirms Public Service Commitment After Defeating Gaurav Gogoi in Jorhat

Jorhat, May 5: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Hitendra Nath Goswami on May 4 reiterated his commitment to public service after securing a decisive victory over Gaurav Gogoi in the high-profile Jorhat Assembly constituency.

Goswami, who won by a margin of 23,182 votes, downplayed the personal significance of the result and emphasised his continued dedication to the electorate. Speaking to reporters after the outcome, he stated that the victory was not about individual achievement and added that he held no animosity towards his opponent.

The Jorhat result marked a significant setback for the Indian National Congress in Assam, as the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance secured a third consecutive term in the state. The broader electoral outcome reflected a strong mandate in favour of the ruling alliance.

Reacting to the results, BJP leaders credited Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the party’s performance. Party leaders said the electorate had endorsed the government’s development agenda and governance record.

BJP candidate Tarang Gogoi said the results indicated public support for development and stability, while Suruj Dehingia acknowledged the efforts of party workers during the campaign. BJP MP Pradan Baruah added that the opposition failed to establish a strong connection with voters.

In the 126-member Assam Assembly, the BJP secured 82 seats, while the Congress was reduced to 19, underscoring a decisive electoral outcome for the ruling party under Sarma’s leadership.
