Lakhipur, May 6: A police personnel was critically injured after suspected drug traffickers opened fire on a team during an anti-narcotics operation in Assam’s Lakhipur area on May 5, triggering tension and a large-scale manhunt in the region.
The incident occurred around 8 pm in Diglang under Jirighat, where police had launched an operation based on specific intelligence inputs to apprehend drug smugglers. As the team moved in, they reportedly came under sudden gunfire from the suspected traffickers, leading to a brief but intense exchange.
The officer, identified as Sharif Hossain Kazi, sustained multiple bullet injuries, including in the abdomen. He was initially taken to Alipur Buroz Memorial Christian Hospital before being shifted to Silchar Medical College and Hospital as his condition worsened.
