Sivasagar, May 6: An alleged cadre of the banned outfit United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) was arrested during a pre-dawn police operation at Palengi under Dimow in Assam’s Sivasagar district, officials said on May 6.
The accused, identified as Biren Chetia alias Rontu Asom (34), is a resident of Bejpathar under the jurisdiction of Moran Police Station.
The operation was led by Sivasagar Senior Superintendent of Police Papori Chetia, along with Additional Superintendent of Police Maidul Islam and other district police personnel.
During the raid, security forces recovered a cache of arms and explosives, including seven grenades, one bottle grenade, a 9 mm Beretta pistol, and 10 rounds of live ammunition. Police also seized Rs 13,500 in cash, mobile phones, and several incriminating documents from the accused.
Investigators suspect that the individual had taken shelter in the area as part of a possible sabotage plan. Further investigation is currently underway.
