Bangaigaon, May 7: Assam Police seized two trucks carrying tobacco consignments in Assam’s Bongaigaon district on May 7 over allegations of transporting goods without valid documents and attempting to evade GST, officials said.
The vehicles were intercepted during a special operation conducted by the Manikpur Police following specific intelligence inputs. The operation was led by Officer-in-Charge Jayanta Kakati along with Gerukabari patrol outpost in-charge Hriday Goswami.
Police identified the seized vehicles as trucks bearing registration numbers AS01 SC4447 and AS01 SC9093. According to officials, the trucks were transporting tobacco from Dinhata to destinations in Nalbari district and Nagaon district.
During inspection, the drivers allegedly failed to produce the required transport and tax-related documents, prompting police to detain the vehicles. Authorities suspect that the consignments were being moved in an attempt to evade payment of Goods and Services Tax (GST).
Officials said further investigation into the case is currently in progress.
