Suvendu Adhikari Takes Oath as West Bengal’s First BJP Chief Minister Since Independence

Kolkata, May 9: Suvendu Adhikari on Friday took oath as the first Bharatiya Janata Party Chief Minister of West Bengal since Independence, marking a major political shift in the state after the BJP ended 15 years of rule by the All India Trinamool Congress in the recently concluded Assembly elections.

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by Narendra Modi along with several senior NDA leaders and BJP functionaries.

Soon after taking oath, Adhikari greeted the Prime Minister and other senior leaders of the BJP-led alliance present at the ceremony, acknowledging their support as the party formally assumed power in the state for the first time.

The BJP’s victory in West Bengal is being viewed as one of the party’s most significant electoral gains in eastern India. Celebrations were reported from different parts of the state following the oath-taking ceremony, with party supporters marking the formation of the new government.
