Nation Remembers Ratan Tata on His First Death Anniversary

Mumbai: Today marks the first death anniversary of Ratan Tata — the legendary industrialist, philanthropist, and former chairman of Tata Sons — whose passing on October 9, 2024, left the nation in mourning. Remembered as much for his humility and compassion as for his business brilliance, Tata’s legacy continues to inspire millions across India and beyond.

The beloved icon passed away at the age of 86 at Breach Candy Hospital in South Mumbai after battling age-related health issues and fluctuations in blood pressure. His final rites were held on October 10, 2024, with full state honours, including a gun salute by the Mumbai Police.

On his first death anniversary, tributes have poured in across social media, with people recalling his selfless gestures, love for animals, and lifelong dedication to social causes. Netizens have been sharing stories that reflect the late industrialist’s unmatched compassion and humility — qualities that made him one of India’s most respected figures.

One of the most heartwarming memories shared today was the viral photograph of a stray dog sleeping peacefully at the entrance of the Taj Mahal Hotel, Mumbai — a scene made possible by Tata’s personal directive to allow strays to rest undisturbed.

In 2018, Tata had also skipped the prestigious British Asian Trust Lifetime Achievement Award ceremony at Buckingham Palace to remain by the side of his critically ill pet, showcasing his deep empathy and loyalty. His social media posts often featured moments with his adopted stray dogs, reflecting his affection for animals and his efforts to promote adoption.

It lives on in the values of kindness, integrity, and empathy he championed throughout his remarkable life.
