12-Wheeler Truck Reportedly Stolen in Dhubri, Fresh Concerns Raised Over Rising Theft Cases

Dhubri, May 16: A reported theft of a 12-wheeler commercial truck in Assam’s Dhubri during the early hours of Saturday has once again raised concerns over increasing incidents of vehicle theft and criminal activity in the district.

The heavy vehicle, bearing registration number AS-17C-5523, is owned by Priyanka Das, wife of Subrasankar Das, residents of Pyarimohan Lane near RK Mission in Dhubri. According to family members, the truck had been parked near Vangarpar Samshan Mandir on Friday evening by its driver before he returned to his nearby residence for the night.

The alleged theft came to light on Saturday morning after the driver returned to the location and reportedly found the parking spot empty. He immediately informed the vehicle owner about the disappearance of the truck.

Following the incident, the owners approached Dhubri Sadar Police Station and filed a formal complaint seeking police intervention in tracing the vehicle.

Subrasankar Das alleged that an organised network involved in commercial vehicle thefts may be operating in and around Dhubri. He also claimed that the GPS tracking system installed in the truck was not functioning at the time the incident occurred, making it more difficult to trace the vehicle.

The latest incident has further intensified public concern over a reported rise in theft and burglary cases across different parts of Dhubri in recent months. Residents have repeatedly urged authorities to strengthen night patrolling and intensify action against criminal groups allegedly active in the area.

Police officials have initiated an investigation and are examining nearby surveillance footage along with other available leads. However, no significant breakthrough had been reported till the filing of this report.
