Himanta Biswa Sarma Inaugurates India’s First AI-Powered ‘Phygital’ Banking Branch in Guwahati

Guwahati, May 16: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on May 16 inaugurated India’s first AI-powered ‘phygital’ branch of Slice Small Finance Bank at GS Road in Guwahati, describing the initiative as a significant advancement in the state’s ongoing digital transformation efforts.

The newly launched banking facility combines traditional in-person services with artificial intelligence-based systems to create a next-generation banking experience. The branch has been designed to offer paperless transactions, automated onboarding processes and more efficient customer service mechanisms through AI-enabled infrastructure.

Addressing the gathering during the inauguration programme in Dispur, the Chief Minister said the launch reflects the government’s focus on promoting innovation-led growth and strengthening access to technology-driven financial services across the state.

Sarma also pointed to Assam’s evolving economic environment, stating that a growing number of institutions and companies are establishing operations in Guwahati, leading to increased opportunities for employment and entrepreneurship among the state’s youth.

He further called for maintaining a favourable investment climate and a positive ecosystem to sustain Assam’s developmental momentum and encourage more investment in the region.

The launch of the AI-powered ‘phygital’ branch is being viewed as another step in Assam’s efforts to expand digital infrastructure and modernise financial service delivery.
