Agartala, May 17: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on May 16 said the state has witnessed significant progress across healthcare, education, employment and law and order since the BJP assumed power in 2018, while marking four years of his tenure in office.
Saha, who took oath as chief minister on May 15, 2022 after succeeding Biplab Kumar Deb, said the government has prioritised stronger public services while ensuring transparency in governance and recruitment processes.
“Tripura has witnessed massive development in fields like health, education, law and order and employment,” the chief minister told reporters, noting that healthcare had experienced some of the most noticeable changes in recent years.
Referring to recent developments in the medical sector, Saha said the Centre had approved Rs 273 crore for the expansion of Agartala Government Medical College and sanctioned an increase in MBBS seats from 150 to 250 beginning with the next academic session. He said the decision would further strengthen both medical education and healthcare infrastructure in the state.
The chief minister also announced that ayurvedic and homoeopathic medical colleges are expected to begin functioning from the upcoming academic session. He added that dental, nursing and paramedical institutions are already operating in the state.
“It means our state has gained a lot in the healthcare sector,” he said.
Highlighting progress in education, Saha stated that several private universities and professional institutions, including engineering colleges, have been established over recent years, creating greater educational opportunities for students within the state.
On employment generation, the chief minister said the government had taken steps to address unemployment over the past eight years. According to him, nearly 22,000 individuals were recruited into regular government positions, while another 20,000 youths found engagement in various government departments through outsourcing arrangements.
“Total transparency has been maintained in the recruitment drive by the government,” he said.
Saha also maintained that Tripura’s law and order situation remained stable, claiming that the state ranked third from the bottom in the overall crime graph maintained by the National Crime Records Bureau.
Reflecting on his four years in office, the chief minister said he was satisfied with the pace of development, particularly in healthcare, while adding that there remained further work to be undertaken.
“We are trying to live up to the expectations of people,” he said.
