Conrad Sangma Lays Foundation Stone for Mini Stadium in North Garo Hills, Meghalaya Targets 510 Sports Projects by 2028

Shillong, May 19: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has laid the foundation stone for a new mini stadium at Damas in North Garo Hills district, reaffirming the state government’s focus on strengthening sports infrastructure and creating opportunities for young athletes across Meghalaya.

Highlighting the importance of sports facilities in developing future talent, Sangma said the state has already completed or initiated work on 240 sports-related projects. He added that the government has now set an ambitious target of increasing that number to 510 projects by 2028.

Sharing the development through social media, the Chief Minister stated that sports infrastructure plays a vital role in nurturing talent and opening new avenues for the youth. He also reiterated the government’s broader objective of ensuring balanced development in every part of the state.

“Our vision is that no district, no block, no locality should be left behind,” Sangma said, underlining the importance of providing equal access to quality sports facilities.

The proposed mini stadium in Damas is expected to enhance access to sporting activities and training facilities for youths in North Garo Hills, an area where infrastructure development has historically lagged behind more urban regions.

Meghalaya has significantly expanded its focus on sports development in recent years through investments in stadiums, training centres and grassroots facilities, with the aim of promoting wider participation and identifying emerging talent from rural communities.
