AASU Stages Protest in Morigaon Over Rising Prices of Essential Commodities

Morigaon, May 22: Members of the All Assam Students’ Union staged a protest in Morigaon on Friday, May 22, against the increasing prices of essential commodities, alleging that the government had failed to control inflation and provide relief to the public.

The demonstration was organised by the Morigaon district unit of the student body as part of a statewide agitation programme launched by AASU.

Protesters demanded immediate intervention to address rising prices of petrol, diesel, cooking fuel, medicines and other essential goods that they said were affecting daily life.

Carrying banners, placards and symbolic LPG cylinders, demonstrators marched through different parts of the town while raising slogans against the government over inflation and the increasing cost of living.

AASU leaders alleged that despite the continued rise in prices of daily-use items, the government had not taken effective measures to address the situation, resulting in growing difficulties for ordinary people.

The student organisation also warned that it could intensify its agitation in the coming days if concrete steps were not taken to control inflation and ease the burden on the public.
