Tripura Cancels 26-Day Summer Vacation for State Colleges to Maintain Academic Schedule

Agartala, May 22: The Tripura government has cancelled the planned 26-day summer vacation for all state-run colleges, including technical and professional institutions, in an effort to maintain uninterrupted academic and administrative functioning.

According to an official notification issued on Friday by Animesh Debbarma, the summer break scheduled to begin on May 26 has been withdrawn in the interest of students and academic continuity.

The notification stated that institutions operating under the Higher Education Department will remain open during the period to carry out important activities, including admissions for the 2026–27 academic session, conduct of even semester examinations and other administrative processes.

To compensate employees for the cancelled vacation period, the government announced that teaching and non-teaching staff would be granted 26 days of Earned Leave in place of the scheduled holidays.

Officials said the implementation of the National Education Policy has been a major factor behind the decision. With educational institutions now functioning under a semester-based academic structure, authorities noted that there is little room for prolonged summer breaks.

“This is one of the major reasons for the cancellation of summer vacation,” Debbarma said.

Tripura currently has 22 state-run general degree colleges along with several technical and professional institutions functioning under the Higher Education Department.
