News Desk: Punjab Police have dismantled a suspected espionage network in a major security breakthrough after arresting a man accused of leaking sensitive information related to Indian Army and paramilitary troop movements to handlers based in Pakistan. The accused, identified as Baljit Singh alias Bittu from Chakk Dhariwal village, was allegedly involved in electronic surveillance activities along the strategically important Pathankot–Jammu National Highway. According to police officials, he had installed an internet-connected CCTV camera at a commercial shop near a key bridge on National Highway-44 in Sujanpur to monitor troop movement. Officials stated that the surveillance system was specifically used to track and record the movement of army and paramilitary vehicles along the sensitive corridor, which is considered crucial for security operations.

Police officer Daljinder Singh Dhillon said the live CCTV footage was electronically transmitted to handlers operating from Pakistan and other foreign locations. During interrogation, Baljit Singh reportedly confessed that he had installed the surveillance equipment in January along with a Wi-Fi router to ensure uninterrupted remote access for the handlers. Investigators revealed that the accused claimed he was acting under the directions of an unidentified handler based in Dubai. In return for carrying out the operation, he allegedly received around Rs 40,000.
Authorities have recovered both the CCTV camera and the Wi-Fi router used in the operation. Acting on intelligence inputs, the Sujanpur Police registered a case against four individuals, including Baljit Singh, Vikramjit Singh alias Vikka, Balwinder Singh alias Vicky and Taranpreet Singh alias Tannu. According to officials, the accused were involved in anti-national activities linked to cross-border networks. Security agencies have launched raids to trace and arrest the remaining suspects. Investigators are now focusing on uncovering the broader network, including financial transactions and possible foreign connections associated with the operation. Police officials confirmed that a detailed report regarding the case has already been forwarded to senior authorities for further action.
