Assam CM Writes to Nitin Gadkari Seeking Repair of NH-37 Stretch to Sutarkandi Border

Sribhumi, May 23: MLA Krishnendu Paul has urged Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to initiate renovation of the NH-37 highway stretch extending through Sribhumi town to the Sutarkandi border port, citing public inconvenience and the deteriorating condition of the road.

According to reports, residents have been facing persistent difficulties due to the poor state of the main road passing through Sribhumi town. Highlighting the significance of the route and the hardships faced by commuters, the legislator requested intervention for immediate repair and improvement of the highway section.

Following the request, Sarma reportedly wrote to Nitin Gadkari seeking urgent and comprehensive restoration of the road corridor.

The NH-37 stretch linking Sribhumi with the Sutarkandi border point is considered an important route for regional connectivity and cross-border movement. The corridor also serves as a key link for trade activities between India and Bangladesh through the Sutarkandi border area.

Apart from its commercial importance, the highway is widely used by local residents and transport vehicles operating in the region. Further developments regarding the proposed renovation work are expected following communication between the state and central authorities.
