Udalguri-Sonitpur, May 23: A farewell programme was organised at Orang Girls’ Middle English School in honour of teacher Bimala Deka, who retired from service on March 31.
The school, established in 1991 under the Mazbat Block Primary Education Office in Udalguri district, organised the event in the presence of teachers, students and members of the school management committee.
The meeting was chaired by headmistress Dikamaya Devi, while assistant teacher Tulika Devi explained the purpose of the gathering.
During the programme, Bimala Deka was felicitated with traditional Assamese items, including a phulam gamosa, jaapi, xorai and a felicitation letter by the headmistress, school management committee members and students in recognition of her service.
Teacher Namita Devi, who was transferred to another school in a regular post in September 2025, was also felicitated during the event.
Students presented songs and cultural performances as part of the programme.
Among those attending the function were retired teacher Shishir Saharia, teachers Geeta Devi, Namita Devi, Tulika Devi and Manju Roy, school management committee president Indra Sharma, adviser Mohan Lal Sharma, senior journalist Nava Kumar Deka, and several invited guests.
