Imphal, May 24: The Manipur government on Friday assured residents of Lamdeng that environmental and public health concerns linked to the proposed Solid Waste Management Plant would be addressed through appropriate measures following discussions held at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat.
Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh chaired a meeting with local residents, where concerns relating to the project, including environmental safeguards and infrastructure development, were discussed.
According to the government, the meeting concluded on a positive note, with both sides reaching an understanding on several key issues concerning the operation of the waste management facility and the development of essential infrastructure in the area.
Residents reportedly raised concerns over possible environmental and health impacts arising from the proposed plant. In response, the government reiterated its commitment to ensuring that waste management initiatives do not compromise public welfare or ecological safety.
Officials said the government remains focused on maintaining a balance between sustainable waste management practices and environmental protection while strengthening civic infrastructure associated with the project.
The proposed Solid Waste Management Plant has drawn public attention in recent months, with local communities expressing concerns regarding pollution, waste handling practices and long-term health implications.
The government stated that the concerns raised by residents had been carefully noted and assured that necessary interventions would be incorporated during the implementation process.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister also held discussions with a delegation of the United Naga Council on the prevailing law and order situation in the state. Issues relating to missing villagers, ongoing investigations and restoration of peace were discussed during the meeting.
