Four Tripura Police Personnel Arrested in Alleged Narcotics Tampering Case

Agartala, May 25: Four police personnel, including an Inspector, have been arrested by the Crime Branch of Tripura Police in connection with the alleged tampering of seized narcotic substances at Teliamura Police Station in Khowai district.

According to Tripura Police sources, the arrests were made on the direction of Anurag following the registration of Teliamura Police Station Case No. 025/2026 dated May 24 under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the NDPS Act.

The accused have been identified as Ajit Debbarma, Rajendra Reang, Sampa Das and Sachindra Debbarma.

Police stated that the incident allegedly occurred during the night of May 20–21. During a mobile patrol on May 20, personnel from Teliamura Police Station intercepted a white Maruti Eeco vehicle and recovered a consignment of codeine-based Eskuf cough syrup, after which seizure procedures were reportedly initiated at the police station.

According to investigators, a later review of CCTV footage from the police station allegedly showed that a portion of the recovered contraband was removed from the GD Room before formal seizure and documentation procedures had been completed.

Preliminary findings reportedly suggested that approximately 245 bottles of 100 ml Eskuf cough syrup, classified as commercial quantity under the NDPS Act, were allegedly removed and concealed by the accused personnel. Investigators also alleged that the seizure officer failed to include the entire recovered quantity in the official records.

Police stated that the case was registered following directions from the Director General of Police. The complaint was filed by Justin Joseph, while the investigation is being led by Jayanta Kumar Dey.

Authorities said all four accused officials have been placed under departmental suspension. They were arrested and are being produced before the competent court, while an investigation into the matter remains in progress.
