Assam Government Exploring Measures to Reduce Impact of Inflation, Says Bhupen Bora

Guwahati, May 26: Assam BJP leader Bhupen Bora on May 26 said the state government was concerned about rising prices and was considering measures to reduce expenditure in different sectors to lessen the burden on people.

Speaking to reporters following Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s reply to the Governor’s address in the Assembly, Bora said inflation was discussed extensively during the chief minister’s speech.

According to Bora, the chief minister also pointed to possible global factors that could affect the economy, stating that any prolonged conflict involving the United States and Iran could have economic consequences for India and Assam.

He said the government was examining ways to reduce spending in different areas and utilise those savings to help address the impact of rising prices on the public.

Bora also welcomed the reported decision by sections of the Muslim community in Assam not to sacrifice cows during the upcoming Eid celebrations, describing it as a gesture of respect towards the sentiments and cultural traditions of other communities in the state.

He said religious practices should continue while maintaining respect for Assam’s cultural values and traditions. Referring to the chief minister’s position on cow protection, Bora stated that mutual understanding and respect among communities would strengthen social harmony and coexistence.

Commenting on Prime Minister Narendra Modi completing 12 years in office, Bora described the tenure as successful and credited the Prime Minister for development, peace and progress, particularly in the Northeast region.

He further stated that the Centre should make efforts to bring the insurgent outfit ULFA (Independent) to the negotiating table under the leadership of Modi and Himanta Biswa Sarma.
