Conrad Sangma Inaugurates Integrated Hospitality & Sports Complex in Shillong

Shillong, May 30: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Friday inaugurated the Integrated Hospitality & Sports Complex at the J.N. Sports Complex in Shillong, describing the facility as a major milestone in the state’s sports infrastructure development.

Developed under the Meghalaya Eco-Tourism Infrastructure Development Project with support from the New Development Bank, the complex is expected to play a key role during the 39th National Games, which Meghalaya is set to host.

Sharing the development on social media, Sangma said the world-class facility demonstrates what can be achieved through “determined governance, strategic planning, and relentless execution”.

The Chief Minister highlighted the state’s increasing investment in sports infrastructure, noting that Meghalaya’s annual expenditure on sports was around ₹65 crore when his government assumed office in 2018. He pointed out that the newly inaugurated Integrated Multipurpose Indoor Hall alone has been constructed at a cost of ₹132.9 crore.

“This is an investment in the future of sports, talent and aspiration in Meghalaya. We dedicate it to our youth,” Sangma stated.

He said the government remains committed to building modern infrastructure that can nurture sporting talent, encourage excellence and create greater opportunities for young athletes across the state.

The inauguration is being viewed as a significant step in Meghalaya’s preparations for the 39th National Games and strengthens the state’s ambition of emerging as a leading sports destination in the Northeast and across India.
