Margherita, May 31: A joint operation conducted by Margherita and Ledo Police in Assam’s Ledo area led to the arrest of a man and the seizure of suspected narcotic substances on May 30.
The accused, identified as Raju Sonar, a resident of Lazum village under Margherita Police Station, was apprehended from the Kalibari area of Ledo following a tip-off.
According to police, the operation was launched based on intelligence received from a confidential source. Sonar was intercepted while allegedly returning from the Ledo-Tikok area.
Police said another individual present at the scene managed to escape during the operation.
During the search, officers recovered 17 sachets containing suspected narcotic substances weighing approximately 6.71 grams. A Pulsar motorcycle and a scooter were also seized in connection with the case.
The accused has been taken into custody, and investigators are examining the source of the seized substances and attempting to identify others linked to the alleged drug trafficking network.
Police said the operation forms part of the ongoing anti-narcotics drive being carried out across the Margherita subdivision to curb the illegal drug trade.
