Moran, June 4: In a significant breakthrough, police have arrested the alleged mastermind behind the sensational robbery at the residence of the owner of Hotel Manbhori in Moran, a case that had remained unresolved for over a year.
The accused has been identified as Pranjal Gogoi, a resident of Balijan Chapori in Chabua, who was apprehended by Moran Police after evading arrest for nearly 15 months.
According to police, the incident took place around 15 months ago when an armed gang allegedly broke into the hotel owner’s residence and carried out a robbery that caused widespread alarm in the locality due to its bold execution. During the incident, the hotel owner reportedly managed to detain one of the accused at the scene, following which several members of the gang were subsequently arrested during the course of investigation. Arms and ammunition allegedly used in the crime were also recovered.
However, Pranjal Gogoi, described by police as the key conspirator behind the operation, had been absconding since the incident, prompting a prolonged manhunt.
Police officials stated that sustained intelligence-based operations eventually led to his arrest from the Chabua area. His apprehension has been regarded as a major development in the case and has been welcomed by the victim’s family as well as local residents, who had been seeking action against all those involved.
The accused has been arrested in connection with Moran Police Station Case No. 9/25, registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 25(1A) of the Arms Act. Investigators are now examining whether he has links to any other criminal activities in the region.
Further investigation is currently underway.
