Gajraj Corps, Gauhati University Explore Stronger Army–Academia Collaboration in Guwahati

Guwahati, June 5: In a significant move aimed at strengthening collaboration between the armed forces and educational institutions, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Gajraj Corps, along with a team of officers, held an interaction with Gauhati University Vice Chancellor Prof. Nani Gopal Mahanta and senior faculty members in Guwahati on June 4.

The meeting brought together prominent academicians, including Prof. Akhil Ranjan Datta, Prof. Chandama Samah, Prof. Poully Vauquline, Dr. Vikash Tripathi and Dr. Sameer Sarkar.

According to a press release issued by PRO Defence Guwahati, the discussions centred on enhancing Army–academia cooperation to build a deeper understanding of the socio-cultural dynamics of the Northeast. The dialogue also focused on fostering strategic awareness, encouraging critical thinking among students, and promoting awareness of career opportunities in the armed forces, particularly among young women.

The interaction further explored avenues to strengthen Army–Academia–Community partnerships through experiential learning initiatives. These include educational visits to forward and frontier areas and direct engagement with Army personnel serving in challenging operational environments, enabling students to gain firsthand exposure to issues related to national security, border management and the diverse socio-cultural landscape of the region.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to nation-building and underscored the importance of empowering youth to become informed, responsible and proactive contributors to the vision of a developed India by 2047. The initiative, officials said, is aimed at nurturing leadership, broadening perspectives and encouraging greater youth participation in national development under the guiding principle of “Nation First.”
