Guwahati, June 5: An incident of theft at the Srimanta Sankar Kristi Bikash Namghar in the Paltan Bazar area has raised concern after unidentified miscreants allegedly broke into the premises and decamped with cash on June 4.
According to reports, the burglars entered the Namghar by breaking through a wall of the building before gaining access to the prayer hall. Once inside, they allegedly stole cash kept on the premises and fled the scene.
The incident came to light after members of the Namghar management and local residents discovered the damaged wall and found that money had been stolen.
The theft has caused unease among devotees and local residents, particularly as it occurred in one of the busiest commercial areas of the city.
Police have been informed about the incident and are expected to examine CCTV footage from nearby locations as part of the investigation. Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend those involved. Further details are awaited.
