The Special Branch of Morigaon Sadar Police arrested a suspected drug peddler during an anti-narcotics operation at Kalyanpur on Tuesday, June 9, and seized 45 containers containing a substance suspected to be heroin.
The accused has been identified as Rakibur Rahman, a resident of Morimuslim Gaon in Morigaon district. According to police, the operation was carried out on the basis of specific intelligence inputs, leading to the recovery of the suspected contraband.
Officials said the seized substance is believed to be heroin, although its exact nature will be confirmed after forensic examination.
Police sources stated that Rahman has a criminal record and had previously been sent to jail on three separate occasions in connection with narcotics-related cases.
Investigators have launched a further probe to determine the source of the drugs and identify the distribution network linked to the seized consignment.
