Serious allegations of a document forgery network linked to recruitment in Central Government security forces have emerged from Assam’s Margherita Co-District, prompting student organisations and civil society groups to seek a judicial investigation into the matter.
Local organisations have alleged that individuals from several states, including Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and West Bengal, may have attempted to secure jobs in Central security agencies by using allegedly forged residential and identity documents purportedly issued from Assam.
The allegations have sparked concern among various sections of society amid claims that permanent resident certificates and other supporting documents were obtained fraudulently and subsequently used during recruitment processes for forces such as the CRPF, CISF, Assam Rifles and ITBP.
According to information cited by local sources, a Margherita resident identified as Mukesh Chauhan has been accused of facilitating the issuance of forged permanent resident and caste certificates to applicants from outside the state. It has been alleged that these documents were later used to obtain eligibility for government recruitment. However, the claims have not been independently verified.
Organisations raising the issue further alleged that several beneficiaries completed their education in their respective home states but presented Assam-issued permanent resident documentation during recruitment procedures.
The allegations have intensified demands for a comprehensive investigation to determine the extent of the purported irregularities and establish whether forged documents were used to secure employment in Central Government services.
The Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), Tinsukia District Committee, Margherita Regional Student Union, Veer Lachit Sena, Asom Margherita Regional Committee and several other local bodies have urged the Assam Government, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Assam Police to initiate immediate action and conduct a thorough inquiry into the matter.
Responding to concerns, officials from the Margherita Co-District administration stated that appropriate action would be taken if any discrepancies or irregularities are detected during the verification process.
As of now, authorities have not announced any formal inquiry or released official findings regarding the allegations.
