Meghalaya to Begin State-Wide Electoral Roll Verification Drive from June 20

SHILLONG: Meghalaya will commence a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls across the state from June 20, with Booth Level Officers (BLOs) undertaking door-to-door verification to update voter records and ensure the accuracy of the electoral database.

Chief Electoral Officer BDR Tiwari said the exercise will begin with a preparatory phase from June 20 to June 29. House-to-house verification by BLOs will be carried out from June 30 to July 29.

According to the schedule, the draft electoral roll will be published on August 5, after which voters will have a month, until September 4, to file claims and objections regarding enrolment, deletion or correction of entries.

The final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on October 7, with October 1 fixed as the qualifying date for the revision process.

The exercise aims to enrol newly eligible voters, remove the names of deceased or shifted electors, and rectify existing records through field-level verification.

Tiwari said the revision would be conducted in accordance with the Election Commission’s guidelines to maintain the integrity of electoral records.

He asserted that the mechanism and procedures adopted for the exercise would ensure that no eligible voter is excluded and no ineligible person is included in the rolls.

The state-wide verification drive is expected to help election authorities identify changes in voter eligibility and keep the electoral rolls updated ahead of future elections.
