Prominent anti-drug campaigner Gumin Mize was arrested in connection with an alleged rape case in Arunachal Pradesh’s East Siang district and has been remanded to 14 days of judicial custody, police officials said.
East Siang Superintendent of Police Pankaj Lamba said personnel from the Pasighat Women Police Station arrested Mize on June 18 as part of an ongoing investigation into the case.
According to police, the accused was taken into custody at around 2 pm and later produced before a local court. After hearing the matter, the court ordered that he be sent to judicial custody for 14 days while the investigation continues.
Authorities have not disclosed further details regarding the allegations or the circumstances surrounding the case. Police said the investigation remains in progress and that legal proceedings will be carried out in accordance with established procedures.
Mize has been widely known in Arunachal Pradesh for his anti-drug awareness campaigns and social activism. Officials stated that further action in the matter will depend on the findings of the ongoing investigation.
