Assam Budget to Focus on Poll Promises, Inclusive Growth: Finance Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah

Guwahati, June 25: Assam Finance Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah on Wednesday said the state’s first full budget under the NDA 3.0 government will prioritise the implementation of commitments made during the alliance’s election campaign while maintaining a realistic and inclusive development approach.

Speaking after a pre-budget consultation meeting in Guwahati, Mallabaruah informed that the Assam Budget for 2026-27 will be presented on July 10 and will seek to address the aspirations of people across all sections of society.

Describing the upcoming budget as people-centric, the minister said it would reflect the expectations of citizens from every community and region of the state while ensuring balanced development and fiscal responsibility.

Mallabaruah also noted that this would be the first budget presentation of his political career and said extensive discussions had been held with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on various aspects of the budget.

Emphasising revenue generation without increasing the financial burden on citizens, the finance minister said the government would focus on widening the taxpayer base and increasing the number of registered taxpayers rather than imposing new taxes.

The pre-budget consultation, held at Vivanta Guwahati, was attended by several ministers, including Ranoj Pegu, Rameswar Teli and Ashwini Ray Sarkar, along with BJP Assam president Dilip Saikia, legislators and senior government officials.

Experts from sectors such as banking, agriculture, healthcare, education and non-banking services, as well as vice-chancellors of various universities, participated in the consultation process and provided suggestions to the finance department for consideration in the upcoming budget.
