Imphal, June 26: Manipur Police have arrested a 23-year-old passenger after allegedly recovering around 420 grams of suspected ganja from his luggage during a routine security check at Imphal Airport, while security forces also recovered a cache of arms and ammunition in a separate operation in Imphal West district.
According to officials, the passenger, identified as Herish Maibam, a resident of Singjamei Wangma Kshetri Leikai in Imphal East district, was intercepted on June 24 during a joint operation conducted by the Airport Police and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). The suspected contraband was seized from his baggage, and police have initiated further investigation into the case.
In another operation carried out on June 25, security forces recovered a significant quantity of weapons, ammunition and communication equipment from an isolated area between Phayeng and Kharang Koireng/Tairenpokpi under the jurisdiction of Lamsang Police Station in Imphal West district.
The seized items included three AK rifles, one 9 mm pistol, four magazines, 37 live rounds of ammunition of various calibres, and two Baofeng wireless radio handsets.
Police said investigations are continuing in both cases to determine the source of the suspected narcotics and the recovered arms, as well as to identify any individuals connected to the incidents.
