Shillong, June 26: The Meghalaya government is set to launch the Chief Minister’s Football Fan-Park in Shillong on June 26, creating a dedicated public space where football enthusiasts can gather to watch selected FIFA World Cup 2026 matches free of cost on giant screens.
The fan park will be established at the S.R.G.T. Parking Lot in Polo and will broadcast matches scheduled at convenient viewing hours, including kick-off times of 9.30 pm, 10.30 pm and 12.30 am.
The initiative has been introduced to provide football lovers with a shared viewing experience while further promoting Meghalaya’s vibrant football culture. In addition to live match screenings, the venue will feature performances by artistes associated with the Chief Minister’s Meghalaya Grassroots Music Programme on match days.
The government has announced that entry to the fan park will remain free throughout the tournament for both residents and visitors.
According to the state government, the project forms part of a broader vision to develop community spaces centred on sports and culture while strengthening Meghalaya’s sporting ecosystem. The initiative also complements the government’s plan to establish what it describes as the country’s largest football stadium at Mawkhnau.
