Sivasagar Police seized a truck allegedly transporting 40 suspected stolen cattle and detained two persons during a late-night operation along National Highway 37 in Assam’s Sivasagar district.
Police said the vehicle was intercepted while it was en route from Dibrugarh towards Nagaon when the operation was carried out.
The detained individuals have been identified as Bijoy Doley and Amar Deka, who were reportedly engaged as the driver and handyman of the truck.
According to police, preliminary findings suggest that the cattle were being transported illegally. The vehicle along with the animals was subsequently seized, and necessary legal procedures have been initiated.
Officials stated that the operation forms part of ongoing efforts by Sivasagar Police to curb the illegal transportation and smuggling of cattle along the national highway corridor passing through the district. Further investigation into the matter is underway.
