Guwahati: Man Killed in Late-Night Crash on Maharaj Prithu Flyover Amid Rain-Slick Conditions

A man lost his life in a late-night road accident on the Maharaj Prithu Flyover in Chandmari, Guwahati, on June 29 after a collision between a motorcycle and a scooter, once again raising concerns over road safety on the stretch during rainfall.

According to preliminary information, the accident occurred on Monday night when the two vehicles collided under wet road conditions on the flyover. The impact of the crash was severe, and the rider succumbed to injuries at the spot.

The deceased has been identified as Parimal Medhi, a resident of Noonmati.

Following the incident, local residents raised concerns over the safety of the Maharaj Prithu Flyover, alleging that it becomes particularly hazardous during rainfall due to its slippery surface. They claimed that similar accidents have been reported on the stretch in the past and called for urgent corrective measures to prevent further mishaps.

The fatal accident has renewed attention on commuter safety along the flyover, with calls for improved road surface management and stronger preventive safety measures, especially during adverse weather conditions.

Police have taken cognisance of the incident, and further details are awaited.
