Family Alleges Medical Negligence After Patient’s Death at Nayabil Hospital in Silchar

The death of a patient at Nayabil Hospital in Borjalenga, Silchar, has sparked allegations of medical negligence, with the bereaved family claiming that a delay in providing oxygen support resulted in the loss of his life.

The deceased has been identified as Rupam Baruah, who was reportedly admitted to the government-run hospital after experiencing severe breathing difficulties. According to his family, immediate oxygen support was essential and could have prevented the tragedy.

Relatives alleged that despite Baruah’s worsening condition, oxygen was not administered in time. They further claimed that an oxygen cylinder was available inside the ambulance that transported him to the hospital but was not utilised during the emergency.

A member of the family accused the hospital of negligence and held the healthcare facility responsible for the death of the family’s only earning member. They have appealed to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to order an impartial investigation into the incident and provide a government job to Baruah’s wife as compensation.

Baruah’s death has left his wife and children without their sole source of income, placing the family in a difficult financial situation, relatives said.

The incident also prompted protests outside Nayabil Hospital, where local residents demanded a comprehensive inquiry into the alleged negligence, strict action against anyone found responsible, and adequate government assistance for the bereaved family.

At the time of filing this report, neither the authorities of Nayabil Hospital nor the Health Department had issued an official response to the allegations raised by the family.
