Shivraj Singh Chouhan Visits Arunachal Flash Flood-Hit Keyi Panyor, Assures Central Support for Relief and Rehabilitation

Itanagar, July 1: Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Tuesday, July 1, visited Arunachal Pradesh’s Keyi Panyor district to assess the destruction caused by flash floods and landslides triggered by a cloudburst earlier this month.

Chouhan was accompanied by Union Minister Kiren Rijiju and Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu during the visit, which was aimed at reviewing the impact of the disaster and the progress of relief operations in the affected region.

The delegation carried out both aerial and ground inspections to evaluate the extent of the damage. The team visited some of the worst-affected locations, including the NEEPCO colony at Possa, and also interacted with families staying in relief camps established for those displaced by the disaster.

The cloudburst, which occurred on June 23, resulted in widespread destruction across the district, damaging homes, agricultural fields and public infrastructure. The disaster also disrupted connectivity along National Highway-13, while several residential quarters were extensively damaged.

During his interaction with the affected residents, Chouhan reviewed the relief measures being implemented and assured them that the Central Government would extend full support for relief, rehabilitation and restoration activities.

Officials said a detailed assessment of the losses is currently underway to facilitate a systematic recovery process. They added that the Centre and the Arunachal Pradesh Government will work in coordination to provide assistance and accelerate rehabilitation efforts in the disaster-hit areas.
