Biswanath: In a bid to reconnect the Congress with the grassroots ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Gaurav Gogoi on October 13 launched a state-wide campaign titled “Raijor Poduli, Raijor Congress” from Pratapgarh Tea Garden in Biswanath.
The initiative, inspired by former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi’s “Raijor Podulit, Raijor Sarkar”, aims to rebuild public trust and strengthen direct engagement between the Congress and the people of Assam. The campaign will cover 100 tea gardens across the state through a five-day awareness and protest drive led by the Assam Pradesh Tea Workers’ Tribal Congress Wing.
Speaking at the event, Gogoi said the Congress seeks to “bring politics back to the people’s courtyards,” adding, “We want to listen to grievances directly and stand with the people, shoulder to shoulder.”
Taking sharp aim at the BJP-led state government, Gogoi accused Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of prioritizing corruption and nepotism over welfare, especially in tea garden regions. “During Congress rule, the leaders of the tea gardens roared like tigers. Under the BJP government, they meow like cats. Ministers today talk about property, not people,” he said.
He further alleged that tea garden workers have been reduced to a vote bank, with the government failing to address their real concerns.
Turning to the death of singer Zubeen Garg, Gogoi questioned the credibility of the ongoing investigation, saying that the government has failed to provide clarity or justice. “It’s been nearly a month, and we still don’t know what caused Zubeen Garg’s death. The government called it a murder, yet no one knows how it happened. People of Assam have only one demand — justice for Zubeen Garg,” he stated.
He announced that the Congress has begun a #JusticeForZubeenGarg campaign, with party MPs, MLAs, and leaders posting in solidarity with the artiste’s family.
Criticizing the Chief Minister’s comments on the case, Gogoi remarked, “Like Himanta Biswa Sarma said — Zubeen Garg’s murder — but political statements cannot replace due legal process. Justice will only be served when the court convicts the guilty and Zubeen’s family feels satisfied.”
Gogoi concluded by reaffirming that Congress stands for the people’s welfare, not personal gain, asserting that the party will continue fighting for the rights and justice of Assam’s citizens.
