Dima Hasao Administration Inspects Haflong–Silchar Road to Address Traffic Congestion

The Dima Hasao district administration on Thursday conducted a joint inspection of the heavily congested Haflong–Silchar road to evaluate traffic disruptions caused by the movement of heavy vehicles and explore measures to restore smooth vehicular movement along the key corridor.

The inspection was led by Deputy Commissioner Gayatri Devidas Hailinge and attended by Senior Superintendent of Police Ripunjay Kakoti, the Project Director of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), and officials from various departments concerned with road infrastructure and traffic management.

The team visited the Jatinga–Silchar section, covering both the Jatinga–Silchar and Silchar–Jatinga routes, where frequent movement of heavy vehicles has led to prolonged traffic congestion. During the visit, officials assessed the existing conditions and reviewed the impact of the bottlenecks on the movement of vehicles.

Discussions during the inspection focused on improving traffic regulation, reducing congestion, and ensuring the safe and uninterrupted movement of vehicles along the affected stretch. The officials also examined practical measures that could be implemented to normalise traffic flow as quickly as possible.

Deputy Commissioner Hailinge said the district administration is committed to taking appropriate steps to minimise inconvenience to commuters and strengthen traffic management on the route. She added that efforts would also be directed towards enhancing road safety and establishing a more efficient and orderly transportation system for the benefit of the public.
