Guwahati, July 4: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on July 4 said that more than 22 lakh families across the state have received assistance under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Gramin (PMAY-G) over the past decade, highlighting the progress made towards the goal of providing permanent housing to rural households.

In a post shared on X, Sarma said Assam has made significant strides in realising the vision of “Housing for All” under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with the rural housing programme transforming the lives of lakhs of beneficiaries.

According to the Chief Minister, nearly Rs 27,730 crore has been released under PMAY-G during the last ten years, enabling eligible rural families to construct permanent homes and improve their living conditions.

Sarma also stated that Assam has emerged as the second-highest state in the country in terms of fund release under the centrally sponsored scheme, attributing the achievement to the effective implementation of the programme.

Reiterating the government’s focus on rural development, the Chief Minister said PMAY-G continues to provide safe, secure and dignified housing to eligible families across rural Assam while contributing to an improved quality of life in villages throughout the state.
