Hundreds of Cargo Trucks Stranded on Silchar–Jiribam Route as Manipur Security Situation Disrupts Supply

Hundreds of cargo trucks carrying essential commodities from Silchar to Manipur have remained stranded for several days due to the prevailing security situation in the neighbouring state, leaving transporters and drivers grappling with growing financial losses.

A long line of 8-wheel and 12-wheel goods vehicles has accumulated along the Silchar–Jiribam road after authorities suspended the movement of cargo trucks as a precautionary measure in view of the tense conditions in Manipur.

Truck drivers said the vehicles have been immobilised for nearly a week, causing consignments of perishable goods, including fish and vegetables, to deteriorate inside the trucks. The prolonged delay has resulted in substantial losses for transporters, with much of the cargo reportedly beginning to rot.

Drivers also highlighted operational difficulties arising from the extended halt, stating that keeping heavy vehicles parked for several days has created maintenance issues and made restarting them more challenging. They said the disruption has added to their financial burden while creating logistical complications for transport operations.

The stranded drivers appealed to the authorities to take necessary steps to facilitate the safe movement of goods vehicles at the earliest. They warned that any further delay would not only increase economic losses but also disrupt the supply of essential commodities to Manipur.
