Imphal, July 6: Manipur Police arrested four people in a series of linked anti-narcotics operations under Lamlai Police Station in Imphal East district, leading to the seizure of around 239 kg of contraband ganja.
The operation began with the arrest of Mataimei W. Shimray, a resident of Ukhrul district, who was intercepted while driving a Mahindra Bolero Pick-up bearing registration number MN-01AA-5728. Police said the vehicle was taken into custody as part of the investigation.
During subsequent operations, two more accused, identified as Ngangbam Dinesh (18) and Phuritshabam Yaiphaba Meitei (18), were arrested from Chingarel Tejpur. A TVS Apache RTR 160 motorcycle was also seized during their apprehension.
In a separate but related follow-up operation, security forces arrested Oinam Abung Meetei (42) from his residence at Pungdongbam Makha Leikai.
Police said approximately 239 kg of suspected ganja was recovered during the operations. The contraband, along with the seized vehicles, has been taken into custody as evidence.
Further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the contraband and identify others who may be linked to the alleged drug trafficking network.
