Congress MLA Jakir Hussain Sikdar on Tuesday said Green Buses operating in Guwahati must strictly follow traffic rules, alleging that reckless driving has resulted in public complaints and road accidents.
Speaking to reporters, Sikdar said residents of Guwahati had raised concerns over the functioning of the Green Bus service, claiming that the buses frequently violated traffic regulations.
“The allegations were raised by the people of Assam and by the people of Guwahati. They said that the Green Bus does not operate the way it is supposed to. It runs according to its own will. It hits people and does not listen to anyone. It does not follow traffic rules,” he said.
The Congress legislator said he respected the government’s decision on the matter but maintained that stricter enforcement was necessary to ensure the buses operated safely.
“Our route in Guwahati is not very long. They should operate properly and follow the rules. If they do not follow the rules, it causes problems for people and also leads to accidents,” Sikdar said.
He urged the authorities to ensure that Green Bus operators comply with traffic regulations to improve road safety and prevent accidents.
