Orang Police Intensify Drive Against Drunk Driving, Helmet Violations

Udalguri-Sonitpur, July 8: Orang Police have intensified their crackdown on drunken driving and helmetless riding ahead of the Independence Day celebrations, collecting ₹7,96,500 in fines during June as part of an ongoing traffic enforcement campaign.

The large-scale traffic checking and naka (checkpoint) operations are being conducted across Orang and adjoining areas under the supervision of Officer-in-Charge Manoj Kumar Das of Orang Police Station and Traffic In-charge Tapan Pal. The drive aims to enhance road safety and ensure the peaceful observance of Independence Day.

During the operation, police thoroughly checked driving licences, helmets, pollution-under-control (PUC) certificates and other mandatory vehicle documents. Legal action was taken against motorcyclists riding without helmets and drivers found operating vehicles under the influence of alcohol.

Police said there would be no compromise when it comes to protecting public safety and warned that strict enforcement against traffic violators would continue.

Appealing to the public, Officer-in-Charge Manoj Kumar Das and Traffic In-charge Tapan Pal urged motorists not to drive after consuming alcohol, to follow traffic regulations and to cooperate with the police during the ongoing enforcement campaign.

According to the police, Orang Police collected a total of ₹7,96,500 in fines from helmetless riders and drunk drivers during June alone.

The operation was supported by Sub-Inspectors Surajit Hazarika and Jitumoni Kalita, Lance Naik Jogen Nath, Biswajit Sutradhar, Constables Jogeswar Sangmai and Montu Kalita, Woman Constable Bhanita Nath, and personnel of the 27th APBN.
