BJP MLA Heikham Dingo Singh on Sunday alleged that “Kuki agitators” were responsible for the arson attack at Kanto Sabal village in Manipur, where three houses were set on fire, and claimed that two to three suspects have already been arrested in connection with the incident.
Speaking to reporters after visiting the affected area, Singh said he, along with the district Superintendent of Police and Deputy Commissioner, inspected the site to assess the ground situation.
Referring to the incident, the legislator said three houses at Kanto Sabal were allegedly burned down by “Kuki agitators”. He described the incident as deeply disturbing, particularly because it occurred near the strategically important Leimakhong Army camp.
Singh said Leimakhong houses one of the largest Army camps in the Northeast and noted that the area commands widespread respect. He termed the burning of houses in front of the Army camp as highly condemnable.
The BJP MLA said the incident had been discussed with the Chief Minister and the Union Home Minister. According to him, authorities have informed them that two to three suspects have already been apprehended, while further investigation is continuing.
The incident occurred a day after three abandoned houses were set ablaze at Kanto Sabal in Imphal West district, adding to tensions in the violence-affected state.
Authorities have not officially identified those responsible for the arson, and the investigation remains underway.
